Foster Parent Training & Licensing

Illinois DCFS – Foster Parent Licensing The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) provides a comprehensive licensing process for individuals and families interested in becoming foster parents. This includes orientation sessions, home studies, background checks, and training requirements. Licensed foster parents play a critical role in providing safe, nurturing homes for children in care. https://dcfs.illinois.gov/loving-homes/become-a-foster-parent.html PRIDE – Foster Parent Training Program PRIDE (Parent Resources for Information, Development, and Education) is the official pre-service training required for foster and adoptive parents in Illinois. This program helps caregivers understand the needs of children in foster care and prepares them to provide trauma-informed, supportive care. PRIDE is required for all prospective foster families before licensing. https://dcfs.illinois.gov/loving-homes/foster-care/pride-pre-service-training.html Illinois Foster & Adoptive Parent Association (IFAPA) The IFAPA offers additional training, advocacy, and support resources for foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers across Illinois. Their goal is to empower families through ongoing education, peer networking, and guidance throughout the licensing and caregiving process. https://www.illinoisfosteradoptiveparents.org/ Foster Parent Law Implementation Plan (FPLIP) The FPLIP outlines the rights and responsibilities of foster parents in Illinois, including expectations for communication, training, support, and participation in case planning. This framework ensures that foster parents are respected and included as essential members of a child’s care team. https://dcfs.illinois.gov/loving-homes/foster-care/foster-parent-law.html
